Canon PIXMA G650 Driver– As a photographer on the verge of a neurotic attitude towards print quality, “every day” print jobs have always gotten me in trouble. I have a 17″ Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printer and a 44″ Epson Stylus Pro 9800 printer in my office. Both devices produce stunning high-quality photos, but neither are designed for practical home office applications or high-volume work. and small workflows. Any other poor guy who has manually fed letter-size copy paper from a printer designed for 44-inch rolls of photo paper just to make a return label will understand my struggle. When I was asked to try out the new Canon PIXMA G620 Wireless MegaTank Photo All-in-One Photo Printer, I hoped it could cover the empty bases on my larger printers.
The first thing I noticed right out of the box is the relatively small footprint and compact design of this printer. It measures just 17.2 x 12.5 inches when folded, so you don’t have to worry about competing with everything else on your desk. When pressed, it expands to an equally comfortable 17.2″ x 21.8″ size. The second thing I noticed was the use of the 6 color ink system. Like previous MegaTank reusable printers, the G620 uses keyed nozzle bottles to ensure that only the correct color can be added to its designated reservoir. I learned this clever feature while trying to make the above mistake, very good foresight, Canon. Another useful design feature of the MegaTank is the presence of transparent windows for each color, so you can quickly see the levels without even turning on the printer.
Although the G620 is marketed as a multifunction printer, it has several features that exceed what I would normally expect from this category. For example, adding red and gray inks to common cyan, magenta, yellow, and black configurations provides a wider color gamut, providing exceptional color accuracy for printers in this class. Print quality is further enhanced by printing at 4800 x 1200 dpi for crisp, sharp details and Canon ChromaLife100 technology, which prevents fading over time. A common complaint with consumer printers—especially those of us who are used to photo printers with large ink cartridges—is how quickly their cartridges run out. Canon says the G620 can print up to 3800 4″ x 6″ photos per ink bottle set, and I believe so. I printed over a hundred 8″ x 10″ black and white images and only noticed a slight dent. at supply levels. I’ve always wanted to print small physical copies of thousands of photos stored on my phone, and the G620 seems like the kind of printer that can handle these tasks. In terms of print dimensions, it produces borderless prints up to 8.5 x 11 inches and can print up to 47 inches long, which is twice the maximum print length of my PRO-1000. Custom print sizes can also be entered, and various paper types are supported for creative applications.

The G620 has an 8.5 x 11.7 inch flatbed scanner on the top. Color or grayscale scanning is possible at 600 x 1200 dpi using the contact image sensor (CIS). Up to 99 copies can be made at a time. images can be scaled from 25% to 400%. The 1.5-inch LCD screen and intuitive control set make it easy to configure settings on the printer itself. A wired connection is provided via the USB Type-B port. Also, the Wi-Fi connection allows you to print remotely. You can print directly from a smart device using the Canon PRINT app, AirPrint (Apple devices) or Mopria Print Service (Android devices).
Overall, I was impressed with the G620’s versatility and found it complimented my collection of photo printers suitable for small photo tasks as well as office needs.
