Canon Pixma TS5000 Drivers Download- The PIXMA TS5000 is Canon’s latest addition to its original line of color MFPs. The curved edges and attractive squat design make it look more like a fancy audio-visual kit than something as mundane as a multifunction peripheral. Still, it’s an MFP: it can print, scan, and copy, and you can connect and share it across your home Wi-Fi network.

It’s also nice to see that Canon has made the TS5000 easier to use than the previous generation: the combination of the three-color display and redesigned controls is a definite improvement, and Canon has finally ditched the confusing mix of separate selection buttons and directional pads. Instead is a simple cursor button with a button in the middle to confirm your selection, and the new menu system is much easier to navigate.

The PIXMA range is built specifically for creative home use, so the TS5000 has an SD card slot that lets you print photos directly from your memory card. Alternatively, you can use Canon’s Android or iOS app to print wirelessly from your tablet or phone.

The TS5000 has a conventional 100-sheet rear paper feed and a front output tray. We were frustrated with the feed slot cover, which you had to close manually after refilling it with paper. It’s easy to forget, and sometimes you must shake it around before the printer detects it. Another minor constraint is the lack of automatic two-sided (duplex) printing – we expect it to be standard at this price.

However, it’s good to see that Canon has gone with a five-ink system, using pigment-based black for bold text on plain paper and black dye for better contrast in photos.

Performance: Print, scan, and copy

This MFP performed well enough, delivering black text at 12.3 pages per minute (ppm) in our 25-page test. Switching to drafts eased the results, saving ink but no noticeable quality loss or speed gains. The TS5000 produces color graphics at a fairly fast 3.7ppm, hitting 4.8ppm in draft mode with only a slight drop in quality. At the greatest possible detail, it took nearly seven minutes to print two 10×8″ photos and nearly 11 minutes to complete six borderless 6×4″ prints.

Connected via USB, scan times are pretty fast at anything up to 1,200 dots per inch (dpi) – snapping a postcard photo at this depth takes a minute and a half. However, copying was a little slower than we expected, with one A4 copy taking only 20 seconds in black and 21 seconds in color.

Canon usually adapts good scanners to its MFPs. The results from the TS5000 are excellent, showing very sharp focus and a high dynamic range that preserves the details of very bright and dark shadows. Both color and mono copy are too dark shadows by default, but they will do it for most purposes.

The text is dark and fairly sharp, while the photos are crisp and detailed, albeit with slightly warm tones that might not please perfectionists – those looking for the perfect print may need to make a few adjustments in Photoshop to get things to look that way.

Operating costs

Canon’s dual black ink setup means, at 2.7p per page, the black component of our running cost calculations is on the high side. In practice, the dip black ink is barely used for regular paper jobs – Canon estimates it will last around 4,000 pages. The overall cost figure of 7.4p per page is a touch high, but not too high.

Indictment

With a great display, results, and often brilliant performance, the PIXMA TS5000 is a great MFP for the home. If you don’t mind paying a fortune for it and can forgive the lack of duplex printing, this talented MFP deserves a place on your desk.
